In an unprecedented move towards environmental sustainability, Ipoh, is poised to become the first city in Asia to achieve 100% waste recycling using state-of-the-art Thermowaste technology.

Ipoh’s Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, unveiled this groundbreaking initiative, which focuses on maximising the value of all waste materials within the framework of the circular economy concept.

This innovative technology employs a unique process that sterilises and cleans solid waste without prior separation, harnessing heat, steam, and pressure. After just 30 minutes of processing, waste is categorised into four distinct fractions: biomass, plastic, metal, and inert materials.

These recovered commodities will be made available in the market, creating reusable resources. For instance, biomass derived from solid waste can serve as an eco-friendly alternative to coal in industrial applications.
