Nestlé Omega Plus recently celebrated a resounding success as it concluded the fourth edition of its “Walk A Million Miles” (WAMM) campaign.
This year’s WAMM saw an impressive and record-breaking participation of 30,000 Malaysians, uniting for a noble cause – promoting heart health and raising awareness about the risks associated with high cholesterol.
The campaign’s theme, “Langkah Bersama, Jantung Dijaga,” emphasised the importance of collective efforts in safeguarding our hearts. Throughout the month of September, participants collectively logged an astounding 2,091,044 miles, leading up to World Heart Day on September 29th.
Record-breaking participation
The success of WAMM 2023 demonstrates the growing health consciousness among Malaysians, reflecting their increasing awareness of the adverse effects of high cholesterol on their well-being.
This year’s event aimed to contribute RM100,000 to the Yayasan Jantung Malaysia (YJM) and Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) Foundation to support their initiatives in educating and aiding Malaysians regarding heart health.
In a closing ceremony that celebrated this year’s achievements, Juan Aranols, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, presented cheques of RM50,000 to both organisations, fulfilling Nestlé’s commitment
Juan Aranols, CEO of Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, expressed his pride in the campaign’s success, saying, “Nestlé Omega Plus has been at the forefront of health and nutrition, and this year’s massive turnout for our Walk A Million Miles campaign mirrors Malaysians’ growing awareness of the risks of high cholesterol and how it can negatively affect their lives.”
Supporting heart health initiatives
WAMM has been a consistent source of support for YJM and IJN Foundation over its four editions, assisting them in educating Malaysians about the risks associated with heart disease and raising funds to aid underprivileged heart patients.
The prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), particularly heart diseases, remains alarming. Raising awareness and altering public perceptions is an ongoing process vital to constructing a healthier Malaysia.
Vice President of YJM Tan Sri Dato’ Kamaruzzaman bin Shariff noted the significant impact of NESTLÉ’s efforts, stating, “Raising awareness and changing perceptions is an unending process, necessary in building a healthier Malaysia. Nestlé’s efforts have a significant impact in complementing YJM in our dedication to educate the public on heart and coronary diseases.”
Toh Puan Dato’ Seri Hajjah Dr. Aishah Ong, Chairman of the IJN Foundation, also expressed her gratitude for Nestlé’s commitment and the support from concerned Malaysians in raising awareness about heart health.
The dedication and fervour exhibited by Malaysians for this noble cause underscores the nation’s growing consciousness of heart health. Nestlé Omega Plus’s ongoing support for these organisations in educating the public and assisting heart patients in need is laudable.
