In a proud moment for Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin, the Mayor of Ipoh, has been bestowed with the esteemed Best Local Authority Leadership Award in the City category at the 2023 Ministry of Housing and Local Government Excellence Awards (AKM 2023).
The award, presented by Deputy Prime Minister II, Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Bin Haji Yusof, recognises exemplary leadership in steering Local Authorities towards excellence.

Ipoh: Smart city early adopter
Ipoh, distinguished as one of the 5 Pioneer Smart Cities, further solidifies its status as a Smart City Early Adopter in 2023. This achievement unlocks a Special Allocation grant of RM 200,000 for Smart City initiatives from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and the Proof of Concept Smart City from TM.
The visionary approach of Ipoh City positions it at the forefront of technological integration and innovation. Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi, representing Ipoh City Council, received the special allocation grant at a ceremony held at Dewan Sri Siantan, Putrajaya Complex.
The Early Adopter status marks the initiation of Ipoh City’s journey towards Visionary Smart City 2030, reflecting its commitment to continuous development and embracing technology for the benefit of its residents.
