IPC Shopping Centre has joined forces with Alliance Bank to launch the IPC Little Eco-Heroes Awards, signifying a significant step in nurturing environmental innovation among young minds.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed today marks the commencement of this initiative, inviting students aged 7 to 17 to channel their creativity into crafting eco-friendly solutions.
The awards, running from today until March 3, 2024, challenge participants to build prototypes addressing waste-related issues using recyclable materials accepted by IPC’s Recycling and Buy-Back Centre (RBBC).
This initiative builds on IPC Shopping Centre’s two-decade commitment to sustainability, providing a platform for the younger generation to showcase green ideas and creativity.
IPC’s sustainability commitment and recycling centre
IPC Shopping Centre has been a stalwart in fostering sustainability for the past 20 years. Its Recycling and Buy-Back Centre (RBBC), established in 2009 and upgraded in 2022, plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable living.
Accepting 15 recyclable categories, including cardboard, paper, plastic, and e-waste, the RBBC empowers visitors to adopt eco-friendly practices.
The Little Eco-Heroes Awards, an extension of this commitment, challenges students to innovate with the same recyclables, fostering a deeper connection to environmental responsibility.
Karyn Lim, General Manager of IPC Shopping Centre, emphasizes the initiative’s role in inspiring and empowering the younger generation to tackle environmental challenges.
Alliance Bank’s support and ESG initiatives
Alliance Bank, in collaboration with IPC Shopping Centre, reinforces its commitment to environmental stewardship through the Little Eco-Heroes Awards.
Dr Aaron Sum, Group Chief Strategy, Marketing & Business Development Officer of Alliance Bank, highlights their shared mission to improve lives and preserve the planet.
Building on their prior collaboration on the ‘Gavå with Your Recyclables’ campaign, this partnership aims to nurture a generation actively contributing to environmental well-being.
Aligned with Alliance Bank’s brand purpose of ‘The Bank for Life’ and ESG initiatives, the awards aspire to inspire more Little Eco-Heroes. Dr. Sum expresses optimism that this initiative will transform communities into better, more sustainable homes for all.
The IPC Little Eco-Heroes Awards offer a unique platform for students to showcase their environmental creativity. With submissions accepted until March 3, 2024, participants are encouraged to form groups and submit video presentations introducing their innovative prototypes.
The top 20 finalist teams will have the opportunity to develop and display their creations at IPC Shopping Centre, with the public participating in the judging process via Facebook. The Grand Final, scheduled for March 3, 2024, will witness live presentations and Q&A sessions with a panel of judges.
