Geopark Ampang Jaya Trail Run (AJTR 2023) is not just a local affair but a global celebration, drawing 1,300 participants worldwide.
Aligned with the 31st anniversary of Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), and co-organised with The Comrades and Tourism Selangor, this run goes beyond a traditional trail experience.
Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture of Malaysia (MOTAC), it transforms into a symbol of international unity and cultural exchange, fostering a healthy lifestyle.
Trail run a challenging outdoor activity
MPAJ stated that AJTR 2023 encourages a healthy lifestyle through challenging outdoor activities, navigating slippery, hilly, and muddy forest areas.
The event promises participants an exhilarating experience, celebrating both physical fitness and environmental appreciation.
Held at Kem Ghafar Baba, Kampung Kemensah, the run saw a diverse age range, from 5 to 72, with participants hailing from various countries like Russia, Sweden, Britain, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Africa.
The race categories included 5km, 10km, and 15km, with specific divisions for the 10km and 15km races.
Prizes and lucky draw
The event introduces divisions such as Men and Women Open, Men and Women Veteran, and Men and Women Legend, specifically for the 10km and 15km races.
Winners in each category will be awarded RM300 and a plaque. The first and second runners-up will receive RM200 and a plaque, and RM100 and a plaque, respectively.
Excitement surrounds AJTR 2023 as participants stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes totalling RM2,000, featuring sought-after items like jewellery and sports equipment.
Generous sponsor support, including contributions from the Selangor State Forestry Department, IJM Land Berhad, Hotel Grand Barakah, and N8 Sports Nutrition, played a pivotal role in the event’s success.
According to MPAJ, the rebranding from AJTR 2022 to Geopark AJTR 2023 aligns with the acknowledgment of Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark Selangor as the National Geopark in November 2022, emphasizing the region’s geological importance.
Geopark AJTR 2023, emerging from the recognition of Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark Selangor, spans 112,955 hectares, featuring 20 geosites of geological significance.
