IHG Hotels & Resorts, in collaboration with Zhancheng Tourism Development, unveils plans for the InterContinental Sabah Kota Kinabalu Resort, a 450-room eco-friendly beachfront haven in Kota Kinabalu.

Slated for a 2027 debut, the resort focuses on sustainable practices from design to operations, offering guests immersive experiences rooted in Borneo’s rich culture.

This project expands IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in Malaysia, emphasising growth opportunities and unique experiences in city and resort destinations.

Scheduled to open its doors in 2027, the InterContinental Sabah Kota Kinabalu Resort represents a significant stride in IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio growth in Malaysia. The 450-room beachfront retreat is a testament to IHG’s commitment to sustainable luxury.

Focused on environmentally friendly practices, the resort promises immersive stays close to nature, embracing the biodiversity of its location. A “back-to-nature” theme, deeply rooted in Borneo culture, will define the resort’s rooms, suites, and villas.

IHG’s Rajit Sukumaran underscores the resort’s strategic alignment with IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow, a 10-year plan emphasising responsible business practices.

InterContinental charts its sustainability goals

InterContinental Sabah Kota Kinabalu Resort charts its sustainability goals across energy, water, landscape, materials, and waste. The resort’s commitment includes natural ventilation, shading, and recycled water usage through a rainwater filtration system.

The emphasis on local sourcing, an on-site food garden, and the incorporation of low-carbon materials underscores its dedication to eco-conscious initiatives. Chou Ken-Yu, Chairperson of Sinyi Realty Inc., expresses the group’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its vision for Sabah’s economic and ecological growth.

Positioned just 25 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, the resort will feature a 600-metre beach, four dining venues, extensive meeting space, fitness facilities, and various pools, elevating luxury in the heart of Borneo.

In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, IHG’s expansion plans encompass multiple brands, promising a diverse and vibrant hospitality landscape in Malaysia.
