Penang International Science Fair draws global talent

Jointly organised by the Penang government and the Penang Science Cluster, the science fair isn’t merely an exhibition but a convergence of minds.

The Setia SPICE Arena in Bayan Lepas buzzed with tens of thousands of visitors during the opening of the Penang International Science Fair (PISF) 2023.

Beyond local participation, teams from Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, India, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe joined 11 captivating competitions.

PISF is a platform nurturing curiosity

Chow highlighted the significance of Penang International Science Fair (PISF) 2023 as more than just an exhibition—it’s a platform nurturing curiosity, especially in STEM.

The event attracted participants from Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, India, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe, elevating its global stature.

PISF, organised by the Penang government and Penang Science Cluster (PSC), received strong backing from industry giants.

Chow acknowledged the support of 54 exemplary companies, including Agilent Technologies and Intel Technology, driving the grandeur of PISF 2023.

Showcasing the science, technology, and innovation

PISF 2023 featured 54 company exhibitors showcasing the science, technology, and innovation behind their products.

In addition to the industry leaders, 26 Penang Makerlab schools actively participated, offering over 20,000 workshop slots of 76 different STEM varieties.

Notably, students from Penang and eight other states, including Johor, participated, emphasising the fair’s widespread appeal.

PSC CEO Datuk Ooi Peng Ee praised the consistent support of exhibiting companies, highlighting their unwavering commitment despite a challenging business environment.

Ooi also shared the PSC’s achievements, including training 146 schools in Penang in coding, showcasing their commitment to scalability and sustainability.

Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, along with other representatives, participated in the opening of PISF 2023, exploring various booths at the arena.

Ooi expressed optimism about the future under Jagdeep’s leadership at PSC, foreseeing new heights for the children in Penang.

The fair’s success, evident in its global participation and industry backing, aligns with the state’s commitment to fostering innovation among young minds.
