On Saturday, 9 December, the Social Hero Foundation (SHF) marks a significant milestone with its inaugural fundraising event since its establishment in 2019 under the Trustee (Incorporation) Act 1952.
The event, “Walk for Health & Environment,” held in collaboration with the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB), promises a day of community engagement and environmental awareness.
Walk for Health & Environment
The Walk for Health & Environment, a collaborative effort with MBJB, invites participants to join a 3 or 5-kilometre walk on the second Saturday of December.
Starting at the Johor Bahru City Council, the route includes key streets like Jalan Ayer Molek, Jalan Mohd Noor, Jalan Dalam, and Jalan Wong Ah Fook before concluding at the City Council building.
The event coincides with the second car-free morning for the Johor Bahru city centre, which takes place every month on the second Saturday.

Funding future initiatives by Social Hero
Born from the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) in 2014, SHF focuses on recognising and empowering Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), and Non-Government Individuals (NGIs).
IMSHA, acknowledged by the United Nations in Malaysia, has honoured 120 Social Hero award winners, comprising 60 NGOs and 60 NGIs, dedicated to charitable efforts in Johor Bahru.
Teo outlines the foundation’s strategic thrusts, emphasising education empowerment, general equality, social inclusion, humanitarian efforts, health and well-being, and environmental sustainability.
The funds generated from the walk aim to finance three impactful projects for 2024:
- Feeding the homeless with a unique approach, involving single mothers in meal preparation.
- Coral restoration project in Mersing, benefitting local fishermen and enhancing national food security.
- Tree-planting and flood preparation workshop in three flood-prone Johor areas.
“These projects will have a meaningful impact on our entire community and can be further expanded once launched,” Teo stated.
NGOs under SHF will collaborate to ensure the success of these projects, focusing on social and environmental impact.
SHF aspires to extend IMSHA’s reach to include all NGOs throughout Johor, aiming to attract 1,000 participants for the first event.
The success of this event contributes to the realisation of SHF’s vision for a socially and environmentally conscious community.
