Grab launches #BantuanBanjir initiative

Grab Malaysia partners with MERCY Malaysia for #BantuanBanjir, pledging RM200,000 to support ongoing flood relief efforts.

In response to the devastating floods affecting several states in Malaysia, Grab Malaysia has initiated the third edition of its #BantuanBanjir campaign, joining forces once again with MERCY Malaysia to raise funds for flood relief efforts. The collaboration aims to provide immediate assistance to communities affected by the ongoing floods in Terengganu, Kelantan, and parts of Selangor.

As part of the initiative, Grab Malaysia has pledged RM200,000 to kickstart the relief efforts. In a bid to encourage widespread participation, Grab is offering Grab users convenient ways to contribute to the cause.

Grab users can now convert their GrabRewards into direct donations to MERCY Malaysia, with Grab committing to match the GrabRewards contributions. This effort ensures that every donation made by users will be effectively doubled, amplifying the impact of the relief funds.

Mastercard donates 1% for flood relief

Furthermore, Grab has partnered with Mastercard to integrate contributions into its GrabFood platform. For every GrabFood order paid with Mastercard and amounting to RM30 or more, Mastercard will donate 1% of the order value to MERCY Malaysia’s flood relief fund. This collaboration between Grab and Mastercard aims to streamline the donation process, making it effortless for users to contribute while ordering their favorite meals.

Adelene Foo, Managing Director of Grab Malaysia, expressed deep concern for the communities affected by the floods, stating, “Through our #BantuanBanjir initiative, we are committed to working with MERCY Malaysia to provide support and assistance to help address the immediate dire needs of the affected communities, especially in the East Coast. We also encourage our employees and fellow Malaysians to join us in making a difference.”

According to the latest data from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and the Social Welfare Department (JKM), the floods have displaced over 883 individuals from 254 families across 9 relief centers, leaving many communities without access to essential supplies and services.

GrabRewards donations doubled by Grab

In addition to the funds pledged and the matching of GrabRewards donations, Grab has committed to contributing to its GrabForGood Fund. This additional financial aid support will specifically target vulnerable groups, helping them rebuild their lives in the aftermath of natural disasters.

President of MERCY Malaysia, Prof Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, expressed gratitude for Grab’s ongoing support, stating, “We truly appreciate Grab’s support in our ongoing flood aid and recovery plan through this critical time of need. MERCY Malaysia values this partnership as it strengthens our emergency response and reach, providing humanitarian aid to the affected communities and addressing their immediate needs.”
