Muay Thai prodigy, Jojo, astounds with a 36-second knockout in US ONE Championship debut, extending his unbeaten streak to 5 wins.

In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Malaysia’s Muay Thai sensation, Muhamad Johan ‘Jojo’ Ghazali Zulfikar, marked his debut on the Primetime US stage of ONE Championship with a breathtaking 36-second knockout victory over WBC International Muay Thai champion Edgar Tabares from Mexico.

The 17-year-old Jojo, hailing from Rentap Muay Thai Gym, exhibited his prowess in the Catchweight category at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, during ONE Fight Night 17. The young athlete’s lightning-fast performance left spectators in awe as he strategically unleashed a powerful head-body combination, ultimately securing the knockout win in the first round.

Despite facing initial aggression from Tabares, representing the Fighting Demons/Richard Cruz Muay Thai club, Jojo skillfully turned the tables with precise counterattacks, showcasing not only his technical mastery but also his resilience in the face of formidable opponents.

Reflecting on the significance of his win on the big stage, Jojo remarked, “It’s amazing. I’m on the big stage now, and this is just the beginning; many more big fights to come.” Revealing the meaning behind his name, Johan, he proudly declared, “In Malay, it means champion. I will continue my mission to become the youngest ONE Championship Muay Thai champion.”

Five wins and counting

This victory adds another feather to Jojo’s cap, bringing his unbeaten streak to an impressive five wins since joining ONE Championship in February of this year. His journey with the martial arts organization began with a historic achievement on October 7, where he became the youngest athlete ever to secure a contract with ONE Championship, earning a Thailand contract valued at US$100,000 (RM467,000).
