Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is set to fortify its position in the aviation sector by responding to the surge in travel demand, announcing an addition of 248 flights to its domestic and international network.

The move, extending until March 2024, will see heightened frequencies on both Malaysia Airlines and Firefly, departing from key airports such as KL International Airport Terminal 1 (KUL), Subang Airport (SZB), and Penang International Airport (PEN).

In a recent statement, MAG revealed plans to bolster domestic travel connectivity with increased flight frequencies.

Malaysia Airlines will witness an uptick in flights departing from its primary hub, KUL, to destinations including Sibu (SBW) from 10 to 12, Tawau (TWU) from 10 to 16, and Kuching (KCH) from 54 to 57 weekly.

Furthermore, Firefly flights from PEN to Kota Kinabalu (BKI) will rise from 14 to 15, Langkawi (LGK) from 10 to 11, and from SZB to LGK from 12 to 13 on a weekly basis.

MAG’s commitment to meeting escalating travel demands extends beyond domestic routes.

Internationally, flights from KUL to Sydney (SYD) will surge from 14 to 18, Melbourne (MEL) from 14 to 17, Amritsar (ATQ) from two to four, Cochin (COK) from six to seven, and Narita (NRT) from 12 to 14 weekly.

Additionally, Malaysia Airlines will augment flights from KUL to key domestic destinations, aligning with strategic increases of three additional flights each to Kota Bharu (KBR), Alor Setar (AOR), eight to Sandakan (SDK), nine to Sibu (SBW), one to Tawau (TWU), and two to Kuching (KCH).

Anticipating heightened travel during the Chinese New Year festive period, MAG revealed plans to elevate the KUL to Singapore (SIN) route by two weekly flights, increasing the frequency from 56 to 58.

Moreover, Malaysia Airlines will add extra flights from KLIA Terminal 1 to key domestic destinations, accommodating festive celebrations in Kota Bharu, Alor Setar, Sandakan, Sibu, Tawau, and Kuching.

Dersenish Aresandiran, MAG’s Chief Commercial Officer of the airline, urged travellers to plan and secure their seats early, highlighting the strategic approach in meeting the expanding requirements of travellers and offering a wider range of travel dates for added flexibility and convenience.

This substantial increase in flight frequencies underscores MAG’s commitment to ensuring a seamless and enjoyable travel experience, particularly during peak travel seasons.
