Anticipating the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) on December 17, road users are advised to plan their routes as the event draws around 20,000 participants globally.
Insp Aizad Muhaimin of the Penang Police Contingent announces the Penang Bridge’s temporary closure from midnight to 10 am on the event day, with road closures starting on December 16 at 11 pm.
These measures aim to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and participant safety.
Traffic Advisory and Bridge Closure
Aizad confirms the Penang Bridge’s closure from midnight to 10 am on December 17 for PBIM, with a potential earlier reopening.
A dedicated team of 300 police personnel will oversee the event to manage traffic and facilitate a secure environment.
To accommodate the marathon, road closures will begin on December 16 at 11 pm, with diversions starting at 9 pm.
Residents in affected areas will maintain access to their homes, and alternative routes to Batu Maung and Penang International Airport are advised.
Parking and Alternative Routes
Participants are recommended to park at Queensbay Mall, specifically in the Q1 and Q2 car park areas.
Other options include parking near the Bayan Lepas free industrial zone. Residents in the closure vicinity will retain access to their homes, and alternative routes are available for motorists.
Wong Hon Wai reveals the participant breakdown: 3,800 for the Full Marathon, 7,750 for the Half Marathon, and the rest for the 10km category.
Wong Hon Wai enhances public and participant convenience, extending the Penang ferry service from 10 pm on December 16 to 6 am on December 17.
Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge remains open for public use.
