Marlborough College Malaysia recently played host to its first-ever Seasonal Festival of Music, a musical extravaganza that showcased the talents of students and staff from across the college.
The event, introduced by Master Simon Burbury, unfolded in the transformed Senior Sports Hall, enchanting the audience with a festive repertoire.
The inaugural festival commenced with a captivating solo performance by Isabel A, who delivered the traditional Once in Royal David’s City, setting the tone for an evening filled with musical delights.
The programme featured a diverse array of performances, including contributions from the Jazz Band, Flute Choir, Prep and Senior Choirs, Jazz Quintet, String Quintet, Prep Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestra.
The standout moments of the evening were the four carols presented by the College Orchestra—a remarkable ensemble of 90 musicians—and the College Choir, comprising over 80 pupils and staff.
Led by conductors John Chitambo, Zhen Wei Chew, and Simon Burbury, the performances ranged from traditional renditions like Once in Royal David’s City to a fusion of modern jazz with Here Comes Santa Claus.
The audience actively participated in singing classics like O Come All Ye Faithful, featuring a spectacular descant by the College Choir, and the closing Hark! The Herald Angels Sing conducted by Geraint Watkins.
The grand finale concluded with a festive transition to the Main Dining Hall, where attendees enjoyed mince pies and Christmas cake, fostering a sense of community and festive cheer.
The event, held in the spirit of Christmas, brought the community together for a magical carol concert, marking a delightful conclusion to the Michaelmas term.
