The 66th edition of Ipoh Low Carbon Day (ILCD), doubling as the closing program for 2023, witnessed the spirited participation of around 2000 residents from Ipoh and beyond.
Themed around International Volunteer Day, the event highlighted the power of collective action, bringing the community together for a day of eco-friendly activities and initiatives.
Celebrating International Volunteer Day
ILCD 2023 embraced the theme of International Volunteer Day, observed internationally on December 5th.
The chosen theme, “the power of collective action: if everyone did,” underscored the strength of collective efforts in making a positive impact.
Recognised by the United Nations since 1985, International Volunteer Day encourages community engagement and collaboration.
The event kicked off with the AeroRetro or Aerobic Gymnastics Competition, organised by the ILCD Secretariat in collaboration with PUSPANITA MBI.
Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud, the Mayor of Ipoh, and Datin Siti Faeza binti Mohd Noor, Chairperson of PUSPANITA MBI, officiated the competition, which featured 200 participants in retro-themed attire.

Ipoh Low Carbon Day 2023 succeeded in not only promoting environmental awareness but also in fostering a sense of community and collective responsibility, embodying the theme of International Volunteer Day and setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
The Mayor of Ipoh announced the rebranding of Ipoh Car Free Day to Ipoh Low Carbon Day, effective July 2023.
According to him, the rebranding is an initiative to reduce the intensity of carbon emissions and support the country’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030.
