The projects, scheduled for implementation early next year, will be executed through a private finance initiative (PFI), marking a significant step towards revitalizing Ipoh’s tourism landscape.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin revealed that several established attractions would undergo rebranding as part of the initiative.

Notable among these are the Japanese Garden at Taman Dr Seenivasagam, the Tin Lakes City at Kolam Rasi Jaya, and Gua Tambun, known for its prehistoric artefacts from the Neolithic era.

The rebranding aims to breathe new life into these sites, offering visitors an enriched experience.

The mayor highlighted the specific focus on the Gunung Lang Recreational Park area, where new tourism products will be developed.

These initiatives will incorporate educational and family-oriented concepts, requiring substantial investments in the range of millions of ringgit. The move signals the city’s commitment to creating diverse and engaging attractions for both locals and tourists.

Rumaizi shared notable successes achieved in 2023, with the Tasik Cermin eco-tourism area and Qin Xin Ling Leisure & Cultural Village contributing significantly to MBI’s revenue.

Tasik Cermin, boasting monthly visits between 40,000 and 50,000, along with Qin Xin Ling Leisure & Cultural Village attracting 20,000 to 30,000 monthly visitors, underscore the popularity of Ipoh’s eco-tourism offerings.

Looking ahead, the city council aims to leverage this momentum, incorporating the rebranded and new attractions into Ipoh’s tourism portfolio. The mayor expressed confidence in the potential of these developments to further boost visitor numbers and contribute to the city’s economic growth.

In another key announcement, Mayor Rumaizi disclosed that applications for Ramadan bazaar lots in MBI’s jurisdiction will be open from December 26 to January 10, 2024.

A total of 1,310 spots across 19 locations will be available, providing entrepreneurial opportunities and contributing to the vibrant Ramadan bazaar tradition.

Ipoh’s strategic approach to tourism development through rebranding and innovative initiatives positions the city as a rising destination.

With a commitment to preserving its cultural and natural heritage, Ipoh City Council’s plans promise an exciting chapter for both residents and tourists, ensuring sustained growth and prosperity for the city.
