The Old Xavierians’ Association (OXA), the oldest La Sallian Old Boys Association in Malaysia, is gearing up to celebrate its remarkable 100th anniversary in the coming year.
OXA President Datuk Khoo Khay Seang shared insights into the association’s longstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, aiding St Xavier’s Institution (SXI), and supporting outstanding junior members through the OXA Education Grant.
Old Xavierians’ and CSR programmes
Founded in 1924, OXA has played a pivotal role in the La Sallian community. Khoo emphasised, “The association has always been active in corporate social responsibility programmes and aiding the St Xavier’s Institution.”
Additionally, the OXA Education Grant supports exceptional junior members who secure placements in higher institutions of learning.
Khoo expressed these sentiments during a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. Chow lauded the association and the school for their achievements and unwavering commitment to society.
The rich history of Old Xavierians’ Association
Chow acknowledged the remarkable work undertaken by OXA, including the creation of the Hall of Gratitude at the former ping-pong area of SXI. The hall honours the names of around 35,000 students, including royalties from Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, and Selangor, who consider SXI their alma mater.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s commitment to supporting various schools in Penang. “The funds are being given to assist the schools, specifically to offer more facilities, to provide a better learning environment for the students,” Chow stated.
Founded in 1924, OXA has a rich history, contributing significantly to sporting activities, CSR initiatives, and support for charitable organizations and St. Xavier’s Institution.
As the association approaches its centennial milestone, OXA stands as a testament to the dedication of its members and leaders over the past 97 years.
Chow congratulated OXA on achieving this significant milestone and commended their ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of old Xaverians.
