Penang’s Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, has pledged to uphold Malaysia Madani values and propel the state towards the ‘Penang 2030 Vision.’

In a New Year message, he stressed the importance of aligning state efforts with the Unity Government’s principles to contribute to the well-being of Malaysians.

The chief minister affirmed continued support for federal government initiatives and outlined the state’s commitment to careful planning and implementation for economic revival.

Chow emphasised the success of the collaborative efforts between the state and federal governments, attributing the achieved development and economic recovery to their ongoing partnership.

Focused on social development, the state government aims to enhance the well-being and quality of life for Penangites. Mega infrastructure projects, including the light rail transit (LRT), airport expansion, and the Silicon Island project, have been prioritised and are already in progress.

“The state government is confident that the Silicon Island project will replicate the success of the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (FIZ), which brought economic renewal to Penang over 50 years ago,” stated the Chief Minister.

He highlighted the significance of Silicon Island in advancing the industrial landscape of Bayan Lepas, ensuring growth and competitiveness in the state’s electrical and electronic (E&E) manufacturing sector.

While acknowledging the potential challenges in completing these ambitious projects during his tenure, Chow reaffirmed his commitment to initiating them for the future well-being of the people.

Addressing the timeline of mega projects, the Chief Minister acknowledged the realistic constraints but stressed the importance of the projects for future prosperity.

“It might be impossible for all these mega projects to be completed before the end of my tenure as chief minister,” he admitted. However, he expressed determination in laying the groundwork for their initiation and ensuring their continuity for the benefit of future generations.

Simultaneously, Chow urged the people of Penang to maintain harmony, assuring that the state government would play its part in securing prosperity and unity.
