Dubai-Langkawi soars with Flydubai’s debut in Feb 2024

As Langkawi embraces the dawn of 2024, the island witnesses a surge in airline connectivity, with Flydubai introducing a new service from Dubai.

This addition enhances Langkawi’s accessibility and marks the first direct link between the Malaysian island and the United Arab Emirates.

Flydubai’s daily flights from Dubai

Flydubai, the Dubai-based carrier, is set to commence daily flights to Langkawi via Penang in Malaysia, starting February 10, 2024, utilising a Boeing 737.

This development signifies a significant milestone for Langkawi, offering the island its inaugural direct connection to the United Arab Emirates.

The service also provides convenient travel options through Dubai’s aviation hub. Flydubai FZ1603 is a codeshare flight with Emirates EK2369.

AirAsia Indonesian’s new direct flights from Medan

AirAsia Indonesian announces the launch of the first-ever direct flights from Kualanamu, Medan, Indonesia, to Langkawi starting March 2, 2024.

This initiative aims to streamline airline travel, reducing travel time and offering a more convenient transfer compared to flying via Kuala Lumpur.

Although specific frequencies are yet to be confirmed, the airline is expected to begin with a four-weekly flight of a daily service.

Langkawi expanding services and connectivity

In the last quarter of 2023, Malaysia Airlines expanded its services to Langkawi from its Kuala Lumpur base, further enhancing connectivity to the island.

On the Singapore to Langkawi route, AirAsia offers daily direct services, while Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ low-cost carrier, operates seven weekly flights between Singapore and Langkawi.

These additional services contribute to improved connectivity for tourists and business travellers.

Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) has successfully persuaded ITAKA, Poland’s largest tour operator, to initiate a charter flight series between Warsaw and Langkawi Island from early 2024.

This service, operated with a Boeing 787, will have 294 seats, connecting the two destinations and facilitating travel for Polish tourists.

ITAKA, headquartered in Opole with a presence in Warsaw and retail travel shops across Poland, adds another dimension to Langkawi’s international connectivity.

With Flydubai’s new service, AirAsia Indonesian’s direct flights, and ITAKA’s charter flight series, Langkawi stands poised for increased global accessibility in 2024.
