The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) takes pride in the Asian Compact Sedan Design Challenge (ACSDC) 2023 victory of Bryan Teh Yea Quan, a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design student.
Bryan who clinched the Championship title in the student category at the ACSDC 2023. His exceptional design skills and innovative approach were showcased at the award ceremony held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur on December 19, 2023.
ACSDC fuels design growth and passion
Bryan Teh Yea Quan, who previously triumphed in the rim design challenge of 2022, continued to shine by securing the top position at ACSDC 2023.
The competition, co-organised by Perodua and the Malaysia Design Council, drew 93 entries from seven Asian countries, offering a platform for designers to redefine the future of compact sedan design.
Bryan Teh Yea Quan, aged 21, expressed gratitude for Saifullizan bin Abdul Wahab’s mentorship during the competition, acknowledging its profound impact on refining his ideas and achieving the prestigious ACSDC 2023 title.
“As a designer, you have to be more than an artist; you need to be an innovator and a problem solver. I have learned that automotive design is where my talent lies. Moving forward, I am driven to leave a lasting mark in the field of automotive design,” said Bryan, expressing his passion for the industry.
Bryan credits mentorship for the win
Saifullizan, an industrial professional turned lecturer at APU’s School of Media Arts and Design, played a crucial role in mentoring Bryan.
With a deep understanding of global automotive design trends, Saifullizan’s guidance and expertise contributed significantly to shaping Bryan’s creative journey.
According to Saifullizan, “A good automotive design is characterised by a combination of aesthetic appeal, functionality, innovation, and practicality.
The ultimate goal is to create a car that not only meets contemporary standards but also has the potential to become an iconic presence on future roads.”
Bryan’s achievements underscore not only his individual skills but also APU’s commitment to nurturing and producing talented designers.
