After a four-year hiatus, Gardenia Bakeries KL, Malaysia’s beloved bread company, celebrated the relaunch of its factory tour programme today, showcasing its commitment to transparency and community welfare. The event was graced by the Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development (KPWKM), YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri.
Gardenia KL, which produces 3.8 million units of various products daily, has been a staple in Malaysian households for 38 years. The factory tour programme, originally launched in 1991, has seen over 40,000 visitors exploring the facility designed with comfort in mind, featuring an observation deck and theatrette for guided tours.
The relaunch comes after overcoming challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and the 2021 floods in Shah Alam. The reopening is a celebration of Gardenia KL’s resilience and dedication to its consumers, providing an opportunity for Malaysians to witness the transparent production process of their favorite bread products.
Gardenia KL CEO, Koh Chin Huat, emphasized the significance of the factory refurbishment and the relaunch of the factory visit programme. “The Gardenia KL Factory Tour Programme has been an educative and fun activity, providing positive social engagement for all age groups. After almost four years, we gather to witness the relaunch of the programme. I must congratulate the team who have been working tirelessly to bring back the Gardenia Factory Tour Programme for the benefit of Malaysians,” said Koh.
Gardenia Cares
As part of its #GardeniaCares philosophy, Gardenia KL has been actively involved in community outreach, education, and climate impact mitigation initiatives. The Ministry’s endorsement acknowledged Gardenia’s dedication to quality and community welfare.
Minister YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri commended Gardenia’s efforts, stating, “We are deeply moved by the concerted efforts of private industries, such as Gardenia KL, who are making strides in driving initiatives that support community development.”
During the pandemic, Gardenia KL played a crucial role as one of Malaysia’s economic frontliners, ensuring a steady supply of bread across Peninsular Malaysia. Additionally, the company set up a RM1 million COVID-19 Aid Fund to provide in-kind aid to vulnerable communities.
The #GardeniaCares initiatives were highlighted during a mini exhibition held during the Minister’s visit, showcasing the company’s commitment to social welfare, mental health, and family development.
Gardenia KL also continued its tradition of supporting children from B40 households, presenting this year’s Bag-2-School kits to the Trinity Community Children Home Society. Since 2015, Gardenia has positively impacted 33,000 children, equipping them with the necessary school supplies.
