Batik Air, in collaboration with the Lion Air Group, is taking a significant step towards promoting Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as the central hub for Umrah journeys.

This initiative is set to mark a milestone in Batik Air’s support for the Malaysian government’s efforts to strengthen KLIA as the long-term Umrah hub.

The Group Strategy Director of Batik Air, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, highlighted the substantial demand for Umrah flights, particularly following the introduction of the non-stop service between Kuala Lumpur and Jeddah on August 15, 2023.

In addressing this surge in demand, Chandran emphasised Batik Air’s commitment to delivering exceptional service to Muslim passengers in Malaysia and Indonesia.

“This strategic move aligns seamlessly with the rising travel interest to Jeddah, and Batik Air is enthusiastic about contributing to and sustaining this momentum,” he stated.

Datuk Chandran also mentioned Batik Air’s active collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture of Malaysia to establish KLIA as the distinguished ‘Umrah hub’ for their Jeddah flights.

“Looking ahead, our vision extends beyond individual flights, as we plan to integrate Batik Air’s Jeddah services with feeder services from Lion Air Group affiliate airlines, reinforcing our commitment to seamless travel experiences,” he added during the Batik Air Engagement Event with Tour Operators.

The event witnessed the participation of more than 100 distinguished tour operators from Indonesia and Malaysia, specialising in promoting Umrah pilgrimage travel.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture of Malaysia, Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, confirmed his attendance, adding significance to the event.
