A fresh addition, the Seremban Sentral Station, is on the horizon, coinciding with a substantial upgrade to Nine Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) stations in the Klang Valley.

The forthcoming Seremban Sentral Station is characterised by its unique features, earning the designation of a “green station.” The design incorporates glass elements, modern architectural concepts, and a focus on achieving net-zero emissions.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that the estimated cost for these developments under the Klang Valley Double Tracking Phase 2 (KVDT2) project is RM280 million.

The construction of Seremban Sentral Station, valued at RM170 million, will preserve the historical heritage of the original station while incorporating modern elements with a unique Minangkabau-inspired design.

“It is not an ordinary station; it is designed using glass, modern design and takes into account net zero emission.

We can say it is a green station, during the day it can save electricity because it uses sunlight and the energy can be recycled,” he explained during the launch of the Seremban Sentral Station construction project.

With its strategic location amidst various commercial facilities, the State Mosque, and shopping centres, Seremban Sentral is envisioned to become the focal point of Seremban city development.

Loke mentioned that in the upcoming seven to 10 years, Seremban Sentral will encompass not only significant landmarks situated near the station but also affordable housing, offices, hotels, commercial units, and educational institutions, amounting to an estimated gross development value of RM1.4 billion.

Furthermore, he assured that the historical significance of the current station, constructed in 1904, would be safeguarded and seamlessly integrated with the new station. The facade of the existing heritage building will remain intact and will not undergo demolition.

The stations set for upgrading include KTMB Salak Selatan, Bangi, Pantai Dalam, Seri Setia, Batu Tiga, Padang Java, Klang, Jalan Kastam, and Port Klang.

Loke emphasised that the government’s commitment to providing top-notch facilities and robust infrastructure for the rail system is reflected in these developments.

Construction will kick off immediately, commencing with the Seremban Sentral Station, anticipated to be completed within 24 months.

Loke highlighted that the Seremban Sentral Station is poised to become a landmark in Seremban City, integrating historical heritage with modernity and unique design.

“This is the government’s commitment to continue providing facilities and good infrastructure in our rail system. It is a new direction of the government towards making public transport an important mode,”

He acknowledged public concerns about the speed and frequency of KTMB services due to the ongoing track upgrade project but assured that these inconveniences are temporary and essential for long-term improvements.

Loke provided an update on the progress of the KVDT1 project, indicating that it has reached 97 per cent completion and is expected to be fully concluded by the end of April.

The ongoing efforts underscore the government’s dedication to enhancing the rail system, contributing to the efficiency and modernisation of public transportation in Malaysia.
