20th Mini Film Festival calls for submissions

Calling all filmmakers! Submit your under 30-minute shorts for the 20th Mini Film Festival in Kuching. Explore ‘SEarcH’ theme, network, and win cash prizes.

In a thrilling announcement, the Mini Film Festival (MFF) is officially inviting submissions for its 20th edition, set to take place in Kuching in July 2024. As the longest-running short film festival in Malaysia, MFF has been a pioneer in championing filmmakers and films that resonate with the contemporary Malaysian society.

Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their under 30-minute short films of any genre or theme, produced in 2022 or later. The festival offers a unique opportunity for nominees to travel to Kuching, connect with exceptional filmmakers and artists, and compete for a cash prize.

Theme explores new frontiers

The festival’s theme for its landmark 20th edition is “SEarcH,” symbolizing the team’s unwavering commitment to uniting filmmakers, artists, films, and audiences. MFF aims to forge stronger connections not only within Malaysia but also with renowned international film festivals, including Minikino Film Week (Indonesia), Thai Short Film and Video Festival (Thailand), Wathann Film Festival (Myanmar), Reel Asian (Canada), and more.

While many established film festivals find themselves trapped in traditional approaches, MFF takes pride in its constant experimentation and commitment to finding a better approach. The festival has evolved significantly since its 18th edition, stepping beyond its comfort zone by hosting events outside UNIMAS campus, incorporating the arts element, introducing fresh regional programs, and fostering active interactions between filmmakers, invited artists, and audiences.

This transformative journey has been made possible through the support of passionate individuals and organizations that MFF has connected with over the years. As the festival enters its 20th edition, the organizers are reflecting on what they can do better in the years to come, inviting participants to join them in the exploration of infinite possibilities that films and arts can unveil.

The anticipation is high for the July 2024 event, where filmmakers and art enthusiasts will come together in Kuching to celebrate two decades of Mini Film Festival. Filmmakers can submit their works through the festival’s official website: https://bit.ly/MFFxMAF.
