In response to the escalating dengue situation, the Ipoh City Council has implemented Source Reduction activities in various localities.

The targeted response particularly focusing on high-risk areas such as dengue outbreak locations and hotspots within the city’s jurisdiction.

Since January 1, 2023, until January 16, 2024, a total of 205 source reduction activities have been conducted within the Ipoh City Council area.

Residents are urged to actively participate in community-based dengue prevention programs, especially in their residential areas, to collaboratively address the dengue fever issue.

The Ipoh City Council has also undertaken Fogging and ULV (Ultra Low Volume) spraying activities in high-risk areas, with a specific emphasis on dengue outbreak locations and hotspots.

Between January 1 and January 23, 2024, a total of 944 fogging sessions and 192 ULV spraying sessions have been carried out within the Ipoh City Council area.

The Source Reduction activities aim to eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding sites in each high-risk locality, playing a crucial role in controlling the spread of dengue.

The residents’ cooperation is paramount in this effort, and their active involvement in community-based prevention programs is strongly encouraged.

Last November, Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin highlighted the severity of the dengue situation, revealing a staggering 306.2% increase in dengue cases within the Ipoh City Council administrative area as of November 25.

According to The Star’s report, the alarming surge, from 486 cases in the corresponding period last year to 1,974 cases, signifies the urgency of the situation. Unfortunately, one death has been reported during this period.

He attributed the spike in dengue cases to increased mobility among the population, heightening the risk of infection and facilitating faster transmission.

The persistent rainy season has exacerbated the situation, contributing to the proliferation of Aedes mosquitoes.

The Ipoh City Council’s swift and comprehensive measures aim to curb the dengue outbreak, but community collaboration remains pivotal.

Residents are urged to actively engage in preventive efforts, and the city continues its commitment to combat the rising cases, emphasising the importance of collective action to protect the well-being of the community.
