Taylor’s University and The Actors Studio (TUTAS) are set to enhance their Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours) programme by introducing new Music and Dance Specialisations.
This collaborative effort involves partnerships with the Young Choral Academy (YCA) and the ASK Dance Company (ADC), aiming to provide students with comprehensive training in various facets of the performing arts.
TUTAS embraces diverse performance genres
Heading the Music specialisation is Susanna Saw, Director of the Young Choral Academy, an esteemed figure in the musical arts scene with a wealth of experience in directing choirs and contributing to international and local music associations.
Professor Dr. Joseph Gonzales, Founder, and Artistic Director of the ASK Dance Company, leads the Dance specialisation. Prof. Dr. Gonzales, a decorated dance educator and artist, brings his extensive career in dance, theatre, and musical theatre to the program.
The Dance specialisation encompasses modules in ballet, contemporary dance, traditional Malay dance, hip hop, jazz, and Silat, offering students a diverse training experience.
Meanwhile, the Music specialisation includes modules in vocal studies, musical theatre, scene studies, movement and stagecraft, repertory and song, musicianship, and ear training.
Students in both specialisations will receive practical training led by industry experts.
Comprehensive offering for passionate artists
Professor Barry Winn, Vice-Chancellor, and President of Taylor’s University expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “The introduction of these additional tracks is set to elevate our Bachelor of Performing Arts.
The programme which will now have a more comprehensive offering to students seeking to pursue their passions in different facets of the arts scene.”
Dato’ Dr. Faridah Merican, Programme Development Director, and Co-Founder of The Actors Studio welcomed ADC and YCA to the TUTAS family, calling it a dream come true and highlighting the opportunity for students to learn from the best in the field.

He added that the introduction of Dance and Music specialisations makes it even more attractive for students to access a full-fledged performing arts centre and benefit from each partner’s expertise and industry connections.
The new Dance and Music specialisations are scheduled to be available for students starting April this year.
