Klippa Shopping Centre, based in Batu Kawan, Penang is embarking on further expansions with the commencement of the construction of northern standalone flagship Decathlon store.
This marks Decathlon’s second store in Penang and its first venture on the mainland of northern region.
Decathlon scores with Klippa expansion in Batu Kawan
The new store, spanning 20,000 sq. ft., is expected to cater to the sporting needs of the fast-growing community in Batu Kawan.
Arnoud Bakker, Commercial Director of Ikano Centres, expressed excitement about this development, stating, “We are thrilled to kick off this phase of our development with the commencement of Decathlon’s construction and the introduction of our latest addition.”
Bakker highlighted the strategic importance of this expansion in aligning with Ikano Centres‘ focus on developing destinations centred around families and healthy lifestyles.
He reiterated Klippa’s commitment to becoming the heart and hub of the Batu Kawan township, which is set to be the first smart city in northern region.

Two pitches, clubhouse, & endless possibilities
In addition to Decathlon’s expansion, Klippa will introduce the Soccer Experience @ Klippa Batu Kawan, Powered by IKEA.
This community-driven project, in collaboration with Soccer Experience, aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and foster connections among football enthusiasts of all ages.
The space, spanning approximately 170,000 sq. ft., will feature two pitches with ample facilities, including an 11-aside open airfield and a 7-aside covered field, complemented by a clubhouse.
Bakker noted that both Decathlon and Soccer Experience @ Klippa Batu Kawan align seamlessly with Ikano Centres’ strategy of developing family-focused destinations.
With a commitment to expanding its portfolio, Klippa Shopping Centre invites the public to join the celebration of this significant milestone.
Klippa Shopping Centre‘s mixed-use development, covering 51 acres, is poised for significant growth with a Total Gross Build Area of 6.5 million square feet and a Total Gross Development Value of RM3.5 billion.
Future expansions will see an additional 800,000 square feet of shopping centre, enhancing Klippa’s stature as a community meeting destination.
