Indonesia AirAsia has resumed its Jakarta-Kota Kinabalu flight service, marking the airline’s first international route in 2024 and offering exclusive direct access to Kota Kinabalu.

The initiative aims to bolster connectivity between Indonesia and Malaysia, fostering stronger bilateral ties and promoting tourism and economic growth.

Capt. Wuri Septiawan, Director Flight Operations of Indonesia AirAsia, highlighted the airline’s commitment to expanding international routes.

“The opening of this route also signifies our support to the government in enhancing the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia,” stated Capt. Wuri.

The reopening of the Jakarta-Kota Kinabalu route signifies Indonesia AirAsia’s dedication to enhancing tourism and economic sectors in both countries.

Inaugural flight welcomed with water salute

The inaugural Indonesia AirAsia flight, QZ 526 welcomed with water salute.

The inaugural flight, QZ 526, departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) and arrived safely at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI), receiving a warm welcome with a water salute.

Capt. Wuri Septiawan, along with Indonesia AirAsia Allstars, was greeted by dignitaries including Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah & Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board, and Rafail Walangitan, Consul General of Indonesia in Sabah.

Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Christina Liew, expressed delight at Indonesia AirAsia’s inaugural flight to Kota Kinabalu, highlighted the positive impact on bilateral relations and tourism development.

Similarly, Rafail Walangitan, Consul General of Indonesia in Sabah, lauded the flight’s significance in strengthening cooperation between the two nations and fostering economic growth.

The direct route between Jakarta and Kota Kinabalu is poised to contribute significantly to Indonesia’s tourism goals and enhance trade activities between the two countries, aligning with broader governmental efforts to boost tourism and economic sectors.
