Seri Delima assemblywoman Connie Tan Hooi Peng lauded the initiative, noting that the illuminated lanterns enhance the vibrant atmosphere of Jalan Masjid Negeri, a crucial route frequently traversed by residents and government dignitaries alike.

Speaking at the lantern lighting-up ceremony, Tan highlighted the significance of adorning Jalan Masjid Negeri with lanterns.

She emphasised that this decorative initiative holds particular importance given the road’s status as a key transportation artery.

Expressing her appreciation for the initiative, Tan stated, “I understand that this is the first time it has been done in the Seri Delima state constituency, and I hope we can continue to do so for all the upcoming festivals in the year 2024.”

Dignitaries gather for lantern-lighting ceremony

Penang adorned one of its major thoroughfares, Jalan Masjid Negeri, with 650 lanterns to mark the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities.

The initiative was made possible through the sponsorship of DS Asia Group, a property management company based in Gelugor, which generously contributed RM50,000 for the installation of the lanterns.

Tan conveyed her gratitude to DS Asia Group for their support in bringing festive cheer to Jalan Masjid Negeri.

The ceremony saw the presence of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, and Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced the hosting of a Chinese New Year Open House at SPICE Arena.

Emphasising the spirit of goodwill and unity, Chow invited the public to partake in the festivities, scheduled from 2 to 4 pm.

He expressed gratitude for the attendance of (Penang) Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his wife Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor, highlighting the importance of fostering friendships and camaraderie during the festive season.

Chow extended his wishes for success, happiness, and harmony to all Penangites, expressing eagerness to meet everyone at the open house.
