Amidst vibrant festivities, Malaysians from diverse backgrounds converged at the Setia SPICE Arena Bayan Baru today to partake in the Chinese New Year (CNY) open house hosted by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Attendees, comprising both locals and tourists, indulged in a lavish array of local delicacies.
The event was graced by Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his wife, Toh Puan Khadijah Moha Nor.
Festive atmosphere with music, dance & performances
Guests, including tourists, were treated to a lavish spread of local delicacies as they immersed themselves in the joyous atmosphere of the celebration.
The event commenced with the traditional “lor sang” ritual performed by Ahmad Fuzi, Chow and distinguished guests.
The festivities were further enhanced by captivating performances, including lion dances, modern dance routines by the Euphoria Penang Dancers Association, puppet shows, traditional drum performances, and musical renditions.
Chow and his wife also took the opportunity to distribute “angpao” to children and residents from invited welfare homes, spreading joy and goodwill.
CNY open house represents people-government bond
In a media session, Chow highlighted the significance of the open house celebration in showcasing unity between the people of Penang and the state government leadership.
He expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation, stating, “This demonstrates the goodwill of the people to work together with us in developing the state of Penang.
” As guests revelled in the festivities, individuals from all walks of life expressed their delight at coming together to celebrate Chinese New Year in a spirit of camaraderie and harmony.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Human Resource Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, and DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang.
Also present were Penang state legislative assembly speaker, Dato’ Law Choo Kiang, accompanied by his wife, State Secretary, Dato’ Rosli Isa, the Penang state government exco members; the ADUNs; the Mayor of the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Datuk Ir. A. Rajenderan.
