The Persatuan Kebajikan 88 Kapten Pulau Pinang (88 Captains) is gearing up to launch a new initiative, the ‘AI for School (AI4S)’ programme, aimed at enhancing talent development among the younger generation in Penang.
Revolutionizing education with AI
Datuk Seri Dr Ooi Eng Hock, Chairman of 88 Captains, announced the upcoming ‘AI for School (AI4S)’ programme during the 88 Captains luncheon at E&O Hotel.
Ooi highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionise teaching, stating, “Through the use of AI-powered tools and strategies, educators can personalise learning, improve students’ outcomes, and ensure success in the digital age.”
The AI4S programme will complement the ongoing ‘Penang 5G School Digital Library’ initiative, which was launched on May 23, 2023, with the aim of providing digital resources to schools across Penang.
Expansion and support
Ooi also shared plans to expand the Penang 5G School Digital Library programme to additional schools beyond the initial target of 88 schools.
He mentioned the support for the construction of new schools in Penang, including SJKC Kwang Aik and SJKT Ladang Juru, as well as the building of ViTrox College.
Additionally, at the luncheon, 16 donors contributed RM150,000 each to the 88 Captains Education Fund (2024-2025), amounting to a total of RM2.4 million.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow commended the progress made by 88 Captains since its establishment in April 2022. He highlighted the scholarship distribution ceremony held in November last year, where students from various universities benefited from the RM500,000 allocation.
Chow expressed gratitude to OCBC Bank, the sponsoring partner, and other contributors such as YTL Communications, Intel Malaysia, and SNS Network for their support towards the Penang 5G School Digital Library programme. He reiterated the state government’s full support for the initiative, emphasizing collaboration to empower the younger generation.
The luncheon also saw 88 Captains presenting a cheque of RM100,000 to Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang, received by its executive officer Suhaimi Chee. The event was attended by Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, state executive councillors, assemblymen, and other dignitaries.
