KLP48 invites talents for historic debut in Malaysia

A new era is set to unfold in Malaysia’s entertainment scene as AKB48, Japan’s iconic girl group, introduces its latest sister group, KLP48. The announcement came on January 1, 2024, marking the beginning of auditions for the debut generation scheduled to take the stage in August 2024.

The brainchild of renowned music producer Yasushi Akimoto, AKB48 has been a global sensation since its inception in 2005. The unique concept of ‘idols you can meet’ revolutionized the idol industry, fostering a strong connection with fans through their own theater performances. KLP48 now joins the ranks of international sister groups, becoming the tenth addition to the illustrious 48 family.

Following in the footsteps of the pioneering JKT48, KLP48 aims to infuse a Malaysian touch into the global phenomenon. With sister groups actively performing in Jakarta, Bangkok, Manila, Shanghai, Taipei, and Chiang Mai, the anticipation for KLP48’s debut is palpable.

AKB48 Legacy Spreads to Malaysia

In an exciting development, auditions are now open to the public, offering aspiring talents in Malaysia a chance to be part of this cultural juggernaut. The audition, titled “KLP48 1st Generation Audition ～I shine from the Heart of Asia～,” welcomes females aged 13 to 23 as of March 1, 2024, regardless of nationality. Those with vocal and dance experience who can live overseas, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are encouraged to apply.

The audition process is detailed on the official website KLP48.my, and applications can be submitted through the dedicated portal (audition.KLP48.my) until March 31, 2024. The selection process includes document reviews, screenings in Kuala Lumpur in mid and late April, and a final examination and training camp in early May.
