This isn’t a dream, but the reality offered by the Sivasanta Medical Camp, a beacon of hope for Penang’s underprivileged.

Established by the Temple of Fine Arts (TFA), this initiative embodies the organization’s motto – “Love for God and Service for Fellow Beings” – by providing essential healthcare services entirely free of charge.

A legacy of service driven by community spirit

Since 2000, the Sivasanta Medical Camp has served as a testament to TFA’s dedication to extending its reach beyond nurturing young artists.

P. Murugiah, the camp’s coordinator, proudly shares, “Over 45 specialists and general practitioners (GP), and more than 20 nurses and hospital staff volunteer at Sivasanta.”

“On service night, which falls on every Thursday, we usually have two specialists and one GP on duty, and at least five other volunteers to help with taking the patient’s blood pressure and sugar level,” he said.

On average, the medical camp receives 30 visitors over two hours from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Holistic healthcare beyond consultations

The camp’s impressive roster of specialists covers diverse areas, from ear, nose, and throat to cardiology and neurology.

Murugiah emphasizes, “Our doctors also provide referrals for further treatment at Penang General Hospital, ensuring continuity of care.”

This comprehensive approach extends beyond consultations, encompassing a holistic understanding of patients’ needs.

Additionally, the camp goes the extra mile by donating medical equipment and even prescription glasses, demonstrating their commitment to improving the lives of the vulnerable in various ways.

Operating within a building provided by the local council, the Sivasanta Medical Camp thrives on collaboration and generosity.

Murugiah expresses sincere gratitude to the council and regular donors for their unwavering support.
