The Melaka River and Coastal Development Corporation (PPSPM) is setting an ambitious target of one million passengers for the Melaka River Cruise (MRC) in 2024.
As of February 20th, 2024, a total of 164,371 passengers have already experienced the MRC, including over 8,000 who enjoyed free rides on the recent public holiday.
Melaka CM confident of reaching target
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh expressed confidence in achieving the target, highlighting various initiatives to attract visitors.
“To support TMM2024 and attract more tourists, we’ve introduced new attractions like the Eco-Cruise on the Sungai Linggi, the Floating Restaurant on the Sungai Linggi, the Melaka Floating Market, and the Sigua Mini Park,” explained Ab Rauf.
He further noted the Melaka Water Taxi as an alternative mode of transportation, aiming to address traffic congestion in the city.

These remarks were made during the Closing Ceremony of the Melaka River Fishing and Freshwater Fish Cooking Competition 2024.
Ab Rauf, who also serves as the Chairman of PPSPM, announced the launch of the Melaka Floating Market in April 2024.
“The market will feature 30 boats with 100 kiosks for traders,” he said.
The market’s focal point will extend from Dataran Pengkalan Rama to Sungai Melaka Phase 2, creating a vibrant and dynamic setting for diverse cultural and culinary experiences.
Preparations for the market are in full swing, with various parties collaborating to ensure a seamless experience.
This initiative is part of a broader plan by the Melaka River & Beach Development Corporation (PPSPM) to enhance the region’s tourism landscape.
The Melaka River Cruise and its surrounding developments are poised to play a significant role in Melaka’s tourism strategy for 2024.
With a focus on diverse attractions, alternative transportation options, and the upcoming launch of the Melaka Floating Market, PPSPM aims to attract one million visitors and contribute to the success of TMM2024.
