Featuring international participants from 39 countries and a vibrant display of cultural exchange, the festival promises a week-long celebration of artistry and tradition.

International kite competition and cultural showcase

The 26th edition of the Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival (FLLSPG) is set to take flight at Bukit Layang-Layang, Johor from February 24th to March 3rd, 2024.

This year’s “Dynamic Culture” themed event will see 130 international participants join 400 local competitors, showcasing their creativity and craftsmanship through kite designs.

Datuk A. Rahim Nin, President of the Malaysian Kite Council (MPM), highlighted the festival’s key attraction: “The international kite competition will display creative designs to the local community.”

Adding to the cultural experience, “kite performances from across the country will showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of traditional Malaysian kites,” said Datuk A. Rahim Nin.

These kites, crafted from natural materials like bamboo and paper, boast intricate designs that enhance their aesthetic appeal.

Collaborative efforts and youth engagement

The 26th edition of the Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival (FLLSPG) is set to take flight at Bukit Layang-Layang, Johor from February 24th to March 3rd, 2024.

The festival is a collaborative effort, organised by the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG), the Johor Kite Association (PPJ), and the MPM, with additional support from various parties and agencies.

Notably, the PPJ, in partnership with Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic (PIS), will introduce a “Stunt Kite” performance, aiming to spark young people’s interest in the art of kite flying.

This initiative underscores the festival’s commitment to fostering cultural appreciation across generations.

Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Johor Menteri Besar, is scheduled to officially open the festival on March 2nd. With an estimated 500,000 local and international visitors expected, the FLLSPG promises a lively atmosphere with various activities planned.

These include Lighted Drone Competitions, Silat Competitions, a traditional Village Feast, guest artist performances, coloring contests, and exhibition and sales booths, offering a diverse and engaging experience for all.

The Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival continues to be a significant event, promoting cultural exchange, stimulating youth engagement, and fostering economic activity within the local community.
