The PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL) is set for a thrilling return in 2024, with the legendary island of Langkawi reclaiming its place as a marquee stage.
This year’s edition, taking place from September 29th to October 6th, promises a dynamic route featuring exciting new locations alongside familiar challenges.
Le Tour de Langkawi: A race evolving
The 28th edition of LTDL marks a significant year for the prestigious cycling race.
Sarawak will debut as a host state with stages in Miri and Bintulu, while Kulai in Johor joins the route for the first time.
Eleven states in total will witness the peloton snake its way through Malaysia’s diverse landscapes.
The National Sports Council (MSN), organisers for the second consecutive year, aims to build upon the success of LTDL 2023.
The “Beat The Heat” theme returns, promising a fiery competition as riders tackle the elements and each other.
A gruelling test of endurance
Cyclists will encounter a demanding route designed to test their physical and mental fortitude.
Stage Three presents a double dose of punishment with back-to-back climbs in the Cameron Highlands.
This challenge is followed by a gruelling ascent of Genting Highlands in Stage Four. Stage Seven, stretching from Miri to Bintulu.
The stretch is a mammoth 200km test, providing a perfect platform for daring breakaways and strategic manoeuvres.
Three Malaysian cycling teams – the National Team, Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG), and Malaysia Professional Cycling (MPC) – are gearing up to challenge the international competition.
TSG riders shone brightly in 2023, with Mohd Aiman Zarif and Nurul Amirul Fakhruddin claiming the King of the Mountain jerseys in Stages One and Two, respectively.
National Team rider Nur Aiman Zarif further cemented his dominance by securing the Asia’s Best Rider jersey in Stage Three.
With a revamped route and a motivated home contingent, the 2024 PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi promises a captivating spectacle for cycling enthusiasts worldwide.
