Lingling set to capture hearts in K-Pop’s I-LAND 2

After the emergence of Alyssa, another Malaysian talent is set to grace the screens of the highly anticipated survival program in Korea. Mnet has recently unveiled the lineup for the second season of the reality survival show “I-LAND”, and amidst the contestants, one name stands out — Lingling from Malaysia.

Following the success of forming the globally renowned boy group ENHYPEN in its first season, I-LAND 2 is already generating buzz with its diverse pool of contestants. Out of the 24 hopefuls, 16 are Korean, 6 are Japanese, and one has both Japanese and Korean heritage. Breaking the mold is 18-year-old Malaysian trainee, Wong Lingling, who is poised to make her mark on the K-Pop scene.

Lingling, born on April 20, 2005, has already showcased her linguistic prowess by choosing #PolyglotGenius as one of her hashtags on her I-LAND 2 profile. Fluent in Korean, she is also reportedly proficient in Chinese and English, the latter being widely spoken in Malaysia.

Expressing her determination, Lingling’s motto reads, “I’ll work hard to become the first female idol from Malaysia!” echoing the sentiments of many fans rooting for her success. Lingling joins the ranks of Malaysian talents venturing into the world of K-Pop, following in the footsteps of Alyssa from SBS’s Universe Ticket and Isaac from SKYE (formerly IN2IT).

Currently under the management of Kep1er and ZEROBASEONE’s agency WAKEONE, Lingling’s teaser video on YouTube has already made waves, garnering over 20,000 views within a day. Meanwhile, her profile photo on the official I-LAND 2 Instagram account boasts over 20,000 likes, proving her growing popularity even before the show’s premiere.

Scheduled to premiere on Thursday, April 18, 2024, I-LAND 2 promises to be a captivating journey for both contestants and viewers alike. With the show’s production helmed by renowned figures such as Taeyang from BIGBANG and Song Kang from hit K-dramas, anticipation is high for what lies ahead.
