AirAsia Malaysia (AK) has announced the resumption of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane, Laos, starting July 2, 2024.
This marks a significant milestone for AirAsia, as they become the only airline offering direct flights to all 10 ASEAN member countries.
AirAsia: A major player in ASEAN connectivity
AirAsia’s extensive network connects nearly 800 million people across Southeast Asia.
As the region’s largest low-cost carrier by passenger volume, AirAsia plays a vital role in economic development.
Their flights create jobs, increase tourist spending, and benefit other sectors through a ripple effect.
The twice-weekly flights to Vientiane are expected to contribute significantly to regional connectivity and tourism.
This aligns with the Lao government’s goal of attracting 2.7 million foreign tourists in 2024.
In 2019, AirAsia was the leading carrier on the Kuala Lumpur-Vientiane route, transporting nearly 50,000 passengers.
Strengthening commitment to the region
“Asean is our core market,” stated Bo Lingam, AirAsia Aviation Group CEO.
“Resuming this route strengthens our commitment to the region. We have connected 130 destinations across ASEAN and beyond, solidifying our position as a truly ASEAN airline.”
Lingam continued, “AirAsia has not only made travel accessible for millions but also significantly contributed to ASEAN economies.
Completing our network to all 10 member countries is a major step towards regional growth.”
To celebrate the route resumption, AirAsia is offering promotional fares starting from RM99 (all-in) one-way from Kuala Lumpur and USD 39 (all-in) one-way from Vientiane.
These fares are valid for bookings made between now and April 7, 2024, for travel dates between July 2 and November 30, 2024.
Bookings can be made on airasia.com or the AirAsia Mobile App (formerly airasia Superapp).
Vientiane, Laos’ capital city, is nestled along the Mekong River and attracts visitors with its rich culture and charm.
The city offers a unique blend of history and modernity, with vibrant traditions, Buddhist influences, and echoes of French colonialism.
Tourists can explore must-see attractions like Wat Si Saket, a historic temple known for its architecture, and Pha That Luang, a gold-covered stupa considered Laos’ most important national monument.
Vientiane also boasts the bustling Morning Market, a haven for traditional handicrafts, exquisite silks, and fresh produce. The Patuxai Victory Monument stands as a symbol of Laotian resilience and independence.
AirAsia’s resumption of flights to Vientiane strengthens regional connectivity and positions them as a leader in ASEAN air travel.
