KLEFF 2024 returns with focus on water sustainability

The Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) is back for its 16th edition, bringing a renewed focus on environmental consciousness and sustainable living.

This year, the festival will take place in a hybrid format, offering both physical and digital screenings in October 2024.

The KLEFF committee expressed their gratitude to partners, filmmakers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the 15th edition in 2023.

This year’s theme, “Water: Sustainably Yours,” highlights the critical role of responsible water stewardship in achieving sustainable development.

KLEFF 2024, supported by the National Commission of Water Services (SPAN), aims to utilize the power of film to raise awareness and inspire action on sustainable water management.

“KLEFF’s mission since its inception 16 years ago has been to connect people, spread awareness, and empower everyone to adopt a sustainable lifestyle,” said Amlir Ayat, Honorary Advisor of KLEFF.

“Water: Sustainably Yours’ emphasises the importance of informed decision-making and sincere efforts towards water conservation for the well-being of all generations.”

Call for film submissions

KLEFF 2024 invites filmmakers and environmental enthusiasts to submit their work via FilmFreeway (https:// lmfreeway.com/kleff).

While thought-provoking films relevant to the theme of water sustainability are particularly encouraged, stories encompassing the broader themes of environmental, social, and economic sustainability are also welcome.

KLEFF 2024 will present a range of awards to recognize outstanding films. These include:

  • Best Short Documentary Award
  • Best Short Film Award
  • Best Animation Award
  • Best Public Service Announcement Award
• Special Awards:
  • Special Water Sustainability Film Award (films related to the festival theme)
  • Best ASEAN Story Award (films related to ASEAN countries)
  • Special Jury Award
  • Special Merit Award (open to Malaysian filmmakers)
