Sarawak Delta Geopark & Gawai package unveiled

Tourism Malaysia launches tour packages highlighting the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and Gawai festivities of Sarawak Delta Geopark.

Tourism Malaysia has launched the “Sarawak Delta Geopark & Gawai 2024 Tourism Package” initiative, promoting the unique geopark landscape and the Gawai Festival celebrations in Sarawak to both domestic and international tourists.

In collaboration with 13 tourism operators from Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, a total of 37 diverse packages have been developed.

These packages offer visits to geological formations (geosites), diverse biological sites, and cultural landmarks within the geopark, spanning the Kuching, Bau, and Padawan districts.

Diversification and local community involvement

“The development of these packages aligns with our efforts to diversify tourism destinations in preparation for Visit Malaysia 2026,” said Mohd Roslan Abdullah, Director of Package Development Division at Tourism Malaysia.

He further highlighted the initiative’s broader goals, stating, “These packages not only promote heritage, history, and cultural preservation but also aim to diversify economic activities and involve the local communities in generating income.”

Tourists can choose from a variety of experiences, including the “Geological, Heritage & Exploration Package,” delving into the geopark’s geological wonders, or the “Hidden Prehistory & Geological Sites Package” for a glimpse into Sarawak’s ancient past.

For those seeking a unique accommodation experience, the “Cloud Glamping Package” offers a chance to immerse oneself in nature.

Cultural experiences are also available, with options like the “Nature & Cultural Package” and festival-focused packages such as the “Gawai Open House Package at Matop Longhouse” and the “Irau Aco Lun Bawang Festival Package.”

Collaboration paves way for “Visit Malaysia 2026”

The “Sarawak Delta Geopark & Gawai 2024” package development stemmed from a collaborative workshop and tourism product visit program held in October 2023.

The 4-day, 3-night program involved the Sarawak state government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MTCP), alongside the Sarawak Forestry Department, the Sarawak Department of Minerals and Geoscience, and Tourism Malaysia Sarawak.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment to promoting Sarawak’s unique tourism offerings and paves the way for a successful “Visit Malaysia 2026” campaign.

All the packages are conveniently compiled in a downloadable brochure available on the Tourism Malaysia website at https://www.malaysia.travel/.
