In a heartfelt gesture of support, Brother International Malaysia has extended a helping hand to the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) by donating RM20,000. This generous contribution is aimed at directly aiding underprivileged women by funding breast screenings for 40 individuals. Additionally, the donation will go towards covering the operational expenses of NCSM’s Children’s Home of Hope, including bills and utilities.
Mr. Tsutomu Takaki, the Managing Director of Brother International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, reiterated the company’s steadfast commitment to NCSM, a partnership that has flourished since 2011. Over the years, Brother Malaysia has been actively involved in Relay for Life, an event dedicated to raising cancer awareness and funds. By sponsoring the costs of breast screening operations, Brother Malaysia aligns with its core values of promoting well-being and empowering communities.
“We believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, and we are proud to make a positive difference in the lives of these women. This donation reflects our dedication to raising awareness about early detection and combating breast cancer in Malaysia,” said Mr. Takaki.
Enhancing access to healthcare
Breast cancer remains a pressing issue in Malaysia, with statistics showing one in 19 women at risk of developing the disease. Alarmingly, nearly 40% of new cases are diagnosed in advanced stages, underscoring the urgent need for early detection.
Expressing gratitude for Brother Malaysia’s support, Dr. Murallitharan Munisamy, Managing Director of NCSM, emphasized the importance of early screening. “We are deeply grateful for Brother Malaysia’s generous support in alleviating the financial burden of those unable to afford screenings. Early detection is crucial in the fight against breast cancer,” he remarked.
Dr. Murallitharan also highlighted the significance of supporting children undergoing cancer treatment. “Thanks to Brother Malaysia’s contribution, we can continue providing optimal care to children at our Children’s Home of Hope,” he added.
NCSM’s Children’s Home of Hope offers free accommodations to underprivileged cancer patients and their caregivers during treatment. Since its establishment in 1997, it has provided over 15,432 bed nights to numerous young cancer patients, ensuring they receive uninterrupted care and support.
Brother International Malaysia’s donation stands as a beacon of hope for those battling cancer, reaffirming the importance of community support in the fight against this devastating disease.
