A heartwarming display of solidarity and support by 100 gutsy individuals for cancer patients unfolded on April 21st at Gurney Plaza, Penang.
The aptly named “100 Gutsy Bald” event saw 100 brave individuals shave their heads, raising over RM600,000 – exceeding the initial target of RM200,000.
Funds for treatment and cancer patients support
Organised by Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH), the event aimed to bolster the hospital’s Cancer Fund, which provides financial assistance to underprivileged cancer patients undergoing treatment.
The event transcended age and background, uniting 100 participants in this remarkable act of solidarity.
Among them were prominent figures from PAH, including group president Ronald Koh, chief executive officer Albin Phua, and charity fund committee member Dr. Khor Chai Tian.
Their participation added a powerful dimension to the event.

The initiative garnered praise from Lim Siew Khim, chairman of the State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee.
She lauded the hospital for aligning the head-shaving event with its 100th-anniversary celebrations.
“This event is not just about 100 participants shaving their hair; it’s about solidarity, support and making a tangible difference in our community,” Lim said during her speech.
She further commended the participants, stating, “Your presence here today is a testament to the strength of our community and our shared commitment to helping others.”
