Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has launched the Erasmus+ Malaysia Hub, a one-stop center for information and collaboration related to the Erasmus+ program.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has taken a significant step in promoting global educational exchange with the launch of the Erasmus+ Malaysia Hub.

This initiative coincides with UTM’s designation as the country’s Erasmus+ National Focal Point.

The launch ceremony, held in conjunction with the Ambassadors’ Roundtable 2024, was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud.

The event’s theme, “The Odes of Innovating Solutions: Transfiguring Globalisation in Higher Education,” underscored the Erasmus+ Malaysia Hub’s potential for fostering collaboration.

His Excellency Michalis Rokas, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia, delivered the keynote address.

He emphasized the hub’s importance, stating, “The launch of the Erasmus+ Malaysia Hub…facilitates deeper bilateral relations between Malaysia and the European Union…This hub stands as a testament to the power of educational and cultural exchanges.”

Ambassador Rokas highlighted the potential to address global challenges through international cooperation in education.

Located at UTM Kuala Lumpur, the Erasmus+ Malaysia Hub serves as a central information and discussion point for all matters related to Erasmus+ in Malaysia.

This initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between universities and diplomatic missions in the country, while also offering guidance and mentorship to those within the higher education sector.

UTM’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Ir Ts Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, expressed his gratitude for UTM’s selection as the Erasmus+ National Focal Point.

He stated, “We welcome Vice-Chancellors and International Offices of Universities to collaborate with us…through joint work with esteemed institutions worldwide.”

UTM currently leads four Capacity Building in Higher Education projects and collaborates with universities from nine countries on various Erasmus+ initiatives.

With a large international student population, UTM recognises the value of close communication with ambassadors in Malaysia. The university strives to empower Malaysian higher education institutions and enhance their global visibility through the Erasmus+ program.

The Ambassadors’ Roundtable 2024, attended by over 150 participants including ambassadors and university representatives, served as a fitting backdrop for the launch of the Erasmus+ Malaysia Hub.

This initiative positions UTM to play a leading role in fostering international collaboration and advancing global educational exchange.
