IHH Healthcare Malaysia has reached a significant milestone by introducing a comprehensive renewable energy initiative across its network.

This move positions the healthcare giant as the pioneer private healthcare provider in Malaysia to transition to solar power through the installation of solar panels at its hospitals.

The event was inaugurated with the energisation of solar panels at Prince Court Medical Centre by Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof.

Fadhillah is also the Minister for Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).

He highlighted the significance of IHH Healthcare’s initiative, stating, “IHH Healthcare’s initiative is a significant milestone towards Malaysia’s commitment to sustainability and renewable energy.

The renewable energy initiative reflects Malaysia’s commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels and contributing to global efforts against climate change.

Other hospitals under IHH Healthcare Malaysia have also embraced solar power, including Gleneagles Hospital Penang, Pantai Hospital Laguna Merbok, and others.

Jean-François Naa, CEO of IHH Healthcare Malaysia, stressed the importance of the initiative, noting that energy consumption constitutes over 75% of the company’s carbon footprint.

He stated, “With the installation of solar panels across our network of hospitals, we are able to transition to renewable energy and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.”

The full rollout of solar power across IHH Healthcare Malaysia hospitals is anticipated to be completed by 2025, in collaboration with Ditrolic Energy, a leading renewable energy developer.

Beyond energy transition, IHH Healthcare Malaysia remains committed to waste management and energy efficiency initiatives as part of its broader sustainability commitment.

The healthcare provider also focuses on addressing core sustainability pillars, including patients, staff, and the community, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
