Canon Marketing Malaysia (Canon) has extended its successful partnership with Taman Tugu for the third year running, coinciding with World Earth Day celebrations.
This ongoing collaboration highlights Canon’s dedication to environmental stewardship and community development.
Canon empowering the next generation
Canon kicked off the Earth Day festivities with an interactive Eco-Workshop led by renowned storyteller Nor Azhar Ishak, author of the Canon-collaborated children’s book “A Kid’s Guide to Save Planet Earth.”
Over 60 participants, including employees’ families and 10 children from Yayasan Chow Kit, enjoyed a fun and educational session focused on environmental conservation.
This initiative underscores Canon’s commitment to inclusive education and empowering young minds to become responsible stewards of the planet.
Canon employees actively participated in a guided forest trail experience at Taman Tugu, a pristine green sanctuary in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. This firsthand encounter with nature fostered a deeper appreciation for the biodiversity they are committed to protecting.
Following the nature walk, employees participated in a creative T-shirt upcycling workshop conducted in collaboration with Zero Waste Malaysia.
The workshop highlighted the importance of reducing plastic waste, particularly from textiles such as polyester and synthetic fabrics, by demonstrating innovative ways to upcycle clothing.
This collaboration reinforces Canon’s support for local non-profit organisations advocating for sustainable living practices.
Shared values drive positive change
Tracey Surin, Head of Fundraising, Activation and Communications of Taman Tugu, expressed her enthusiasm for the continued partnership.
“These activities raise awareness about environmental conservation while fostering a sense of community involvement and responsibility,” she said.
“This collaboration continues to be instrumental in driving positive change and aligns with our shared values of sustainability, education, and community development.”
Masato Yoshiie, President & CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia, emphasised Canon’s unwavering dedication to sustainability and community development.
“Our continued partnership with Taman Tugu reflects our corporate philosophy of ‘Kyosei,’ which embodies the idea of living and working together for the common good,” he said.
“Our employees exemplify these values, and through initiatives like these, Canon aspires to contribute to a greener and more inclusive society.”
Canon’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond its partnership with Taman Tugu. The company is a six-time winner of the Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards, recognised for its various environmental conservation efforts.
These initiatives include adopting trees at Taman Tugu and organising a nationwide tree-planting tour under the banner of “One Canon One Tree.” Since 2016, this program has seen over 9,000 trees planted, with plans for further expansion in the coming year.
Canon’s sustainability efforts encompass a wide range of programs, from educational programs for children to woodworking workshops and nature education initiatives for underprivileged communities.
These projects not only promote environmental responsibility but also foster community involvement and improve overall well-being. Canon’s “Imaging for Good” principle underscores its commitment to leaving a lasting positive impact on both people and the planet.
