The MoU underscores a shared commitment to attracting international tourists.

A key focus will be on enhancing air connectivity, making Malaysia more accessible to travelers from ASEAN countries, West Asia, South Asia, and East Asia.

This will involve strategic route development and improving flight schedules.

“Tourism Malaysia and MAG will collaborate to leverage each other’s strengths,” stated Manoharan Periasamy, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia.

He envisions seamless connections and unparalleled services for tourists, achieved through joint marketing initiatives, familiarisation trips, and targeted advertising campaigns.

The partnership aligns with the national “Malaysia Truly Asia” tourism branding campaign and the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) initiative.

The goal is to attract 35.6 million tourists by VMY2026, generating an estimated RM147.1 billion in tourism revenue.

The MoU paves the way for the expansion of Malaysia Airlines’ popular Bonus Side Trip (BST) program.

This program allows passengers to add a complimentary flight to a domestic destination within their international itinerary.

The partnership will see the development of exclusive BST packages, allowing tourists to experience a wider array of Malaysia’s cultural and natural wonders.

The three-year partnership program will see Tourism Malaysia and MAG collaborate on joint marketing and promotional activities in key international markets.

These efforts will target not only leisure travelers, but also Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) and transit passengers. This comprehensive approach aims to revive Malaysia’s tourism industry on a global scale.

With a renewed focus on air connectivity, targeted marketing campaigns, and the expansion of enticing programs like BST, the Tourism Malaysia and MAG partnership promises to reignite Malaysia’s tourism industry, solidifying its position as a must-visit destination in Asia.
