Hope persists in finding Muhammad Hawari Hashim, the Malaysian climber who went missing on Mount Everest last year.
The Malaysia Mountain Guide Association (MMGPA) has announced a US$5,000 reward for any information leading to his location.
Reward offered for information on Hawari
MMGPA president Mohd Yussainy Md Yusop issued a statement today confirming the reward, provided by Pioneer Adventure Pvt. Ltd.
“The reward is offered to sherpas or individuals, particularly those on Everest during this year’s climbing season,” Yussainy explained.
He added that Azim Afif, leader of the Everest 2023 Mission, is currently on the mountain coordinating search efforts.
The statement reads, “The Expedition Operator Association has been informed of a reward amounting to US$5,000 if a sherpa or any individual on Everest can provide information on the location of Hawari directly to the executive director of Pioneer Adventure Pvt. Ltd, Nivesh Karki.”
Collaboration for a continued search at Everest
Yussainy emphasized ongoing efforts to locate Hawari. “The search effort is being conducted by MMGPA in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Minister of Penang,” he stated.
The association has also sought technical expertise from the Malaysian Space Agency and the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department to aid in the search.
“Furthermore, MMGPA has received cooperation from the Malaysian Embassy Office in Kathmandu, Nepal, which has informed the Foreign Minister of Nepal for the country’s military to be on the lookout during the ongoing Mountain Cleaning Campaign on Everest,” the statement added.
Muhammad Hawari Hashim, a 33-year-old hearing-impaired climber from Malaysia, vanished on May 19th, 2023, while descending from Camp 4 after successfully reaching the summit of Mount Everest.
The search for Hawari continues, with the MMGPA and collaborating entities utilising all available resources to bring him home.
