Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal gets RM7 million upgrade

Travellers passing through the Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal can now enjoy a significantly improved experience thanks to the completion of Phase 1 of its upgrade project.

Announced by State Local Government and Town & Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, the RM7 million project has transformed the terminal into a more user-friendly and accessible space.

Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal enhanced for all users

The upgraded facilities prioritize inclusivity and comfort. The installation of escalators and elevators caters to passengers with disabilities and the elderly.

Additionally, restrooms have been revamped with dedicated amenities for OKU (Orang Kurang Upaya, or persons with disabilities). Centralised and user-friendly ticket counters streamline the ticketing process.

“The facilities at this terminal have been improved to be user-friendly, especially for the disabled and the elderly,” H’ng stated during the opening ceremony.

The project also addressed parking facilities. Both car and motorbike parking areas have been paved and equipped with CCTV cameras for 24-hour monitoring, enhancing user safety and security.

Convenience is further bolstered by the introduction of a cashless parking system that accepts Touch ‘n Go cards and debit cards.

Partnership for efficient terminal management

The terminal, owned by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), is managed by UDA PIMD through a strategic collaboration with Easybook.

This partnership ensures efficient terminal operations, including ticket collection, regulation, cleaning, and security systems. The agreement runs from August 2021 to August 2024.

While Phase 1 focuses on core infrastructure and accessibility, Phase 2, completely overseen by MBPP, is underway. This phase reportedly includes a roof upgrade with a three-year extension contract.

The Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal upgrade demonstrates a commitment to providing a more comfortable and accessible experience for all travellers.

With ongoing improvements and a focus on user needs, the terminal is well-positioned to serve the community effectively.
