Batik Air launches premium, eco-friendly transfer service at KLIA

Batik Air launches premium terminal transfer at KLIA for Business Class and Flexi passengers, featuring all-electric Kia EV9 and Kia Carnival vehicles.

In a move to enhance passenger experience amid infrastructure upgrades at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Batik Air has introduced an exclusive private terminal transfer service. Starting yesterday, this premium offering is available to Business Class and Flexi passengers, providing a seamless and eco-friendly transfer solution between the main terminal and the satellite building at KLIA Terminal 1. This initiative comes in response to the temporary suspension of the aerotrain service at KLIA, ensuring uninterrupted and comfortable transit for high-tier passengers.

A Strategic Partnership with Kia for Sustainability

Batik Air’s new service is a result of a strategic collaboration with Kia, facilitated through Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd, Kia’s sole distributor in Malaysia. The partnership introduces a fleet of all-electric Kia EV9 SUVs and the latest Kia Carnival MPVs for the transfer service. The EV9, a fully electric SUV, boasts impressive performance with twin motors delivering 380hp and 700Nm of torque, achieving 0-100km/h in just 5.3 seconds. This vehicle, with a range of 505km on a single charge, underscores the airline’s commitment to sustainable travel.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke highlighted the importance of this service as Malaysia prepares to chair ASEAN next year. He emphasized that the high standards of service at Malaysian airports will play a crucial role in creating positive impressions among arriving dignitaries and regional leaders. Loke also noted that this initiative aligns with broader sustainability goals within the aviation industry, advocating for a comprehensive approach to reducing carbon emissions across all aspects of aviation operations, including ground services.

Commitment to Sustainability and Passenger Comfort

At the launch event, Batik Air CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy reaffirmed the airline’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint while ensuring passengers enjoy luxury and comfort. He mentioned that this new service is part of Batik Air’s long-term vision for a sustainable future in aviation. Anthony Loke praised the collaboration between Batik Air and Kia as a proactive step towards responsible climate stewardship, noting that sustainable practices should extend beyond flight operations to include all supporting services.

The introduction of this transfer service reflects Batik Air’s proactive approach to enhancing passenger experience and addressing environmental concerns. With Malaysia Airports aiming to complete the KLIA aerotrain replacement project by January 2025, Batik Air’s innovative solution ensures that passengers continue to enjoy seamless transit in the interim. This service is not only a testament to the airline’s commitment to sustainability but also an example of how partnerships with automotive leaders like Kia can drive eco-friendly solutions in the aviation sector.

Leading the Way with Innovative Transfer Solutions

Batik Air’s new service sets a benchmark for premium travel experiences in Malaysia, joining Malaysia Airlines, which launched a similar service earlier this year. In January 2024, Malaysia Airlines introduced a private terminal transfer service using a fleet of all-electric BMW i7 vehicles, offered to Business Class and Business Suite ticket holders, as well as Enrich Platinum members. This service operates 24/7, providing seamless transfers from the dedicated premium transfer lounge at Gate G1 in the main terminal to Gate C1 at the satellite terminal building.

Batik Air’s introduction of the Kia EV9 and Kia Carnival vehicles for its exclusive transfer service is a significant step towards sustainable travel. By integrating high-performance electric vehicles, the airline not only enhances the passenger experience but also contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions. This initiative is expected to set a new standard for airport transfer services, promoting a balance between luxury and sustainability in Malaysia’s aviation industry.
