After 17 years of serving up iconic chargrilled burgers, Carl’s Jr is closing its doors at Petaling Jaya’s 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
The burger chain, renowned for its American-style fast food, announced the closure in a heartfelt social media post, thanking customers for their unwavering support over the years.
A chapter closes in 1 Utama
Carl’s Jr has officially confirmed that its 1 Utama outlet will cease operations on 4 August.
Despite this closure, the brand reassures fans that they can still enjoy their favourite burgers at other locations. The closure of the 1 Utama outlet, which has been a staple since 2007, leaves Carl’s Jr with five remaining stores in Malaysia.
Four of these are located in the Klang Valley at Mid Valley, Subang Parade, Melawati Mall, and AEON Mall Shah Alam, with another in Johor’s Mid Valley Southkey.
“Thank you for your amazing support over the years,” Carl’s Jr expressed in their announcement, highlighting the strong customer base and memorable experiences created at the 1 Utama location.
Continuing the Carl’s Jr legacy
Founded in 1941, Carl’s Jr has built a legacy of serving delicious, chargrilled burgers.
With over 80 years of history, the brand now boasts more than 3,000 locations across the United States and over 35 countries worldwide.
Carl’s Jr first made its mark in Malaysia on 23 July 2007, with the opening of its Kuala Lumpur restaurant.
The Malaysian expansion was part of a broader agreement with Singapore-based franchisee Aspac F&B Sdn. Bhd., which had been operating Carl’s Jr restaurants in Singapore since 2005.
The initial plan was to open 25 outlets in Malaysia over six years, although the actual number has remained more modest.
While the closure of the 1 Utama outlet marks the end of an era, Carl’s Jr remains committed to serving its loyal customers at other locations.
The brand continues to uphold its promise of delivering quality fast food, focusing on its signature chargrilled burgers that have won over fans globally.
