Victoria Institution (VI) Kuala Lumpur has once again demonstrated its excellence by emerging as the overall champion of the Field Parade Competition at the Malaysia International Marching Arts Championships (MIMAC) 2024.
The prestigious event, held at Perak Stadium in Ipoh, saw VI not only claim the top spot in the Seniors category but also secure its position as a leader in the marching band community.
Victoria Institution dominates MIMAC 2024
Victoria Institution’s victory at MIMAC 2024 is a testament to the school’s dedication to cultivating top-tier talent in the marching arts.
Competing against formidable opponents, VI edged out Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Nan Hwa, Sitiawan, and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, who secured second and third places respectively.
The competition was judged by an esteemed panel of international experts, including Dana Difilippantonio from the United States and Vietnam, Shiho Kondo from Japan, and Pirun Jehwong from Thailand.
The judging criteria covered a range of performance aspects, such as musical precision, tone quality, and visual presentation, all of which contributed to VI’s outstanding performance.
Ipoh hosts International Marching Arts spectacle
MIMAC 2024 was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of musical and visual artistry.
Held from 8 to 10 August, the event attracted over 2,000 participants from four countries: China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.
The Ipoh community welcomed this international spectacle with open arms, and the city’s status as a UNESCO Creative City of Music added to the significance of hosting such an event.
Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, Mayor of Ipoh, highlighted the importance of MIMAC in promoting Visit Perak Year 2024.
He remarked, “The organisation of this event is very timely and aligns with Ipoh’s declaration as a UNESCO Creative City Network (UCCN) for music.”
The competition’s success was further amplified by the enthusiastic support from local authorities and dignitaries, including the CEO of Tourism Perak, Nurmalis Musa, and Ipoh City Council member Clr. Dato’ Ahmad Hariri bin Kamarudin.
Victoria Institution’s triumph at MIMAC 2024 is a proud moment for the school and a significant achievement in the Malaysian marching band scene.
